Bio: Peter Clarkson

Peter Clarkson was baptized in October of 1721 at St Michael's on Wyre in Lancashire England. He was orphaned in 1729, at the tender age of eight, and we do not know where, or with whom he lived during his remaining childhood years. Peter Clarkson was married at the Cathedral in Manchester in 1748, to Ann Consterdine, daughter of Benjamin Consterdine and Alice Taylor. Ann's family was from the village of Blackley, four miles outside of the cathedral town of Manchester. Baptismal records for their children suggest that they set up housekeeping in Blackley. Peter Clarkson was a weaver by trade. He and his wife Ann had eleven identified children - James, John, Thomas, Esther, Richard, Anne, Leonard, Hannah, Joseph, Joanna, and Alice Clarkson. Their oldest son, James Clarkson, is my ancestor.

There is a difference of opinion among researchers as to when Peter Clarkson died. I have made note of the date 1784 in this database. This is based on a suggestion (?) that he was age sixty-three when he died. Some researchers place his death thirty years later in 1814. This may be confused with the information that his wife, Ann Consterdine Clarkson died 3 January 1814. She would have been age eighty-eight. It is believed, but not proven, that they are buried at St Peter's Church in Blackley, Lancashire, England.
