Bio of Alfred Waller Boyd

Alfred Waller Boyd was born on the 8th of January 1868 in Boydton, Mecklenburg county Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Harvey Boyd and Henrietta Wice Goode.

Alfred Boyd was the great, great grandson of Alexander Boyd and Ann Swep(t)son, who established the Boyd Tavern of Mecklenburg county Virginia in the late 18th century. Alexander Boyd immigrated from Ayreshire Scotland, settling in Virginia in 1764. The Boyd Tavern in Mecklenburg county Virginia has been recently restored by descendants of Alexander Boyd. As a young man, Alfred W Boyd moved from Virginia to Fort Smith Arkansas. He was married to Annie Preston Clarkson on the 19th of October 1893. They lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas during the early years of their marriage and their two daughters were born there. The 1900 census of Sebastian county Arkansas gives his occupation as bookkeeper.

About 1900 the Boyd family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where Alfred Boyd was instrumental in establishing Oklahoma Hardware Company. Further details of his life are given in his obituary, published in the Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City), 14th of November 1930.
