Research Notes of Lora Redman Lockhart:
Lawrence Leonard Lockhart, son of Elijah and Cora Drake Lockhart was born 6 Oct 1903 on a farm east of Hopewell Church in Dallas township, DeKalb county Missouri. He attended the Sunny Side school and one year at the Rogers school near Clarksdale where he graduated from the eighth grade. He attended the Maysville High School and took a mechanical course and followed that line the rest of his life. He worked for the Taylor Garage in Maysville, Kemper Garage in Cameron, Offutt Service in Stewartsville and opened his own shop in the Owen Building east of Maysville and retired in 1969. On 2 June 1928 he married his Sunny Side schoolmate, Lora Margaret Redman and in 1929 purchased his grandfather's Sidney Drake farm, located on C Highway southwest of Maysville. This farm has been in family ownership since 1888. It is here that Lawrence Lockhart died on 25 Jan 1979. His great grandfather, Elijah Price gave land for the East Union Chapel Church and it was in this area that he spent the greater part of his life. He was a member of the East Union Chapel Church, caretaker of the Redman Cemetery, member of the former Sunny Side Community Club and helped in the organization and establishment of the DeKalb County Historical Society, where he was a charter member.
