    • Tope [Swanda] loved the land. Tilling the soil is very hard work but very rewarding. In 1945 he received an Award of Honor for using the land properly . . . increasing the productivity of his farm . . . He participated in the Canadian County Historical Society Museum's grand opening parade by riding the early day binder, which he had donated to the museum. The entry caused much comment and added a great deal of interest.

      TJ Swanda's Services Set
      Yukon - Services for TJ Swanda, 69, will be at 2pm Tuesday at Turner Funeral Home, with burial in Yukon Cemetery. He died Saturday at his home. Swanda, a retired farmer, had lived in the Yukon area all his life. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a son, Larry, Wilson NC; a daughter, Mrs Mary L Scolli, Westmont, Ill, and three sisters, Mrs Mary Selement, 2848 NW 21, and Mrs Allie Svejkovsky, and Mrs Agnes Zoubek, both of Yukon.
