Obituary of Lutie Akard Swanda


Lutie Mae Swanda, 87, of Loveland, died March 17, 2001, of natural causes at Columbine Care West in Fort Collins. She was born June 30, 1915, in Antlers, Okla., to Willie Thomas and Augusta Garvin Akard.

She graduated from Antlers High School [Antlers Oklahoma]. She married Cecil Swanda in Wellington, Texas on Nov. 29, 1936. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1998. She was a homemaker while they farmed and ranched. In 1946 they moved to Anton, Colo., and in 1951 to Loveland. Mrs. Swanda enjoyed spending time with her family, and playing cards in several groups. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Antone M. "Tony" Swanda and wife Julie of Loveland; daughter Cindy Ericson of Kingsville, Texas; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters.

Viewing will be at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The casket will not be open at the service. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 1003 W. Sixth St., with the Rev. John Turnage officiating. Burial will be at Loveland Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
