  • Notes
    • Daniel Edmonston, son of James Edmonston and Mary Polly Carling, served in the Black Hawk War from Woodstock Twp of Schuyler Co IL in 1832. He was elected McDonough Co Treasurer 3 Aug 1835. He was married and had four children, three of them between age 5 and 10, in the 1840 McDonough Co census. In 1850 his full family was shown in Schuyler Co, Illinois he and wife Caroline both being age 39, she born in KY and he in NC. All their children were born in IL. The July 1860 census of Rushville, Schuyler Co Illinois shows only wife Cynthia with children George, Susan and Caroline. Daniel was apparently not home. He was assessor for Woodstock Twp on 24 June 1861 when he made a list of names of men in the township between ages 18 and 45, probably preliminary to the draft which came later for the Civil War. A probate record in Schuyler Co Illinois indicates that William, son of Daniel and Cynthia, had died 28 Feb 1872, and that his daughter Cynthia Ann (age 3 in 1871) was placed in the guardianship of her grandfather, Daniel Edmonston. On 8 April 1874 Daniel declared to the court he had kept his word until about the last day of 1873 when his home was broken up and he boarded Cynthia Ann out for several months until he found a home for her with Christian Briggs of Rushville. According to the Rushville Times on 25 Oct 1878, Daniel died at the home of his son-in-law William Corbridge in Brown Co, IL on 17 Oct 1878. A death date and place for Cynthia, wife of Daniel, is only conjectural and a source of her maiden name is not shown.
