  • Notes
    • The identity of Tabitha Brassell as the wife of John Chadbourne and then James Robinson is speculative. Other reseachers have proposed a story for John Chadbourne that would raise questions about the relationships presented in this database. When I originally entered Tabitha in my database, I assumed her maiden name was Chadbourne, but upon locating her Will, written in 1860 Washington county Missouri, I discovered that she had two sons surnamed Chadbourne. When I looked into this further I came across the marriage of John Chadbourne and Tabitha Brassell in 1818 Sumner county Tennessee. I propose that Tabitha Brassell married first John Chadbourne, and secondly James Robinson in 1831 in Washington county Missouri. This is not proven! But, it has some support in the evidence of a Joseph Chadbourne who was born in Tennessee and migrated to Washington county Missouri where he married Nancy Brickey in 1819. Nancy Brickey's brother, Silas Brickey, is witness to the Will of Tabitha Robinson in Washington county Tennessee. There is some evidence that Joseph Chadbourne and John Chadbourne are brothers. A few records to consider:

See the Will of Tabitha Robinson in this database. She names her children, Thomas Chadbourne, Lucius (Louis) Chadbourne, Nancy Agnes (Robinson) Effinger, William A Robinson, Mary P Wingo (possibly a granddaughter, daughter of Julia Robinson Wingo). Among the witnesses to the Will is Silas Brickey.

John Chadbourne married Tabitha Brassell, 1818 Sumner county Tennessee.

James Robinson married Tabitha Chadbourne; 7 Sep 1831; Washington county Missouri

Joseph Chadbourne and Nancy Brickey; married on 21 January 1819 by Jesse Walker, MG at Breton Twp., Washington Co., Mo. Terr.

Silas Burke Brickey was born in Tennessee [1800] and settled in Washington Co., Missouri in 1832 on the Huzzah Creek about 2 1/2 miles above Highway 8 and moved to Steelville, Missouri in the late 1830's. He was a prominent business man and landowner and also had slaves. He married Jemima McAdams and had children Israel P., Samuel and Mary M. He died of paralysis in 1879.
